DAY 2 Kalpitiya

Early morning, embark on a captivating Dolphin & Whale Watching excursion (Season: November to April). Kalpitiya's unique geography allows for close encounters with dolphins and whales near the shoreline, thanks to the proximity of the continental shelf. Keep an eye out for Spinner dolphins, known for their acrobatic displays, alongside Bottlenose, Risso’s, and Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins. If luck favors, you might also spot the majestic Blue Whales, the largest mammals on Earth, along with Bryde's Whales, Sperm Whales, Killer Whales, False Killer Whales, Dwarf Sperm Whales, Melon Headed Whales, and Cuvier's Beaked Whales. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, the afternoon promises an exhilarating adventure exploring the diverse habitats of Kalpitiya lagoon by boat. This marine sanctuary encompasses flat coastal plains, expansive sand dune beaches, intricate mangrove swamps, and jungles inhabited by elephants, offering a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka's coastal biodiversity.

DAY 3 Wilpattu National Park

After breakfast, depart for Wilpattu National Park. Located in Sri Lanka's Northwest coast lowland dry zone, Wilpattu is characterized by a unique landscape of lakes known as Villus, natural basins filled with rainwater surrounded by open grassy plains and dense scrub jungle. The park's main attractions are its populations of Leopards and Sloth Bears. Additionally, visitors can encounter Asian Elephants, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Asiatic Buffalo, and Mugger Crocodiles. Wilpattu is renowned for its diverse birdlife, including endemic species like the Ceylon Junglefowl, Brown-capped Babbler, Ceylon Woodshrike, and Black-capped Bulbul found in riverine habitats. Muntjac or Barking Deer are particularly abundant here compared to other national parks. The park also hosts a variety of butterflies such as the Great Eggfly, Great Orange Tip, Glad-eye Bushbrown, Blue Mormon, Common Mormon, Common Rose, and Crimson Rose. In the afternoon, embark on an exhilarating jeep safari within Wilpattu National Park, offering opportunities to observe its wildlife in their natural habitats amidst the park's varied landscapes.

DAY 4 Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Embark on a visit to the renowned Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated as one of the world's most captivating historical locations. Constructed in the 5th century AD by King Kasyapa, Sigiriya stands as a testament to ancient engineering and architectural prowess. Perched majestically amidst dramatic surroundings, Sigiriya served as both a fortress and palace. At the foot of the rock, explore the remnants of the palace complex, including four indoor swimming pools where the king's 500 concubines once bathed. Ingeniously designed water arteries within the palace walls provided natural cooling, a marvel of ancient climate control. Climb to the summit via metal staircases and ladders to behold the remains of palace walls, gardens, and ponds, offering a glimpse into the opulence and strategic foresight of its builders. The mirror walls of Sigiriya still display vibrant frescoes depicting the king's concubines, hailing from diverse corners of the world, adding a layer of cultural richness to this historic marvel.

DAY 5 Polonnaruwa & Minneriya NP

In the morning, set out for the ancient city of Polonnaruwa on the Money Kingdom tour, a fascinating expedition perfect for wildlife enthusiasts keen on observing monkeys in their natural habitat. This immersive experience offers a close-up look at various social behaviors among the primate communities, from maternal care and playtime to competition for food, grooming rituals, and a rich array of facial expressions, body postures, and vocal signals. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, prepare for an exhilarating afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya National Park. Nestled around the expansive and historic Minneriya Tank, the park boasts diverse habitats ranging from dry tropical forests to grasslands and wetlands. During the safari, witness the spectacle of large herds of Sri Lankan Elephants congregating around the reservoir's grass fields, particularly notable during the dry season. This gathering provides a unique opportunity to observe these majestic creatures as they socialize, bathe, feed, and even mate, creating unforgettable moments. Minneriya National Park is also a haven for bird watchers, housing over 160 species of birds, including endemic species such as the Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Sri Lanka Jungle Fowl, and Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill. The park's biodiversity extends to a variety of large mammals like sloth bears, sambar deer, and axis deer, as well as smaller mammals such as the Purple-Faced Langur, Toque Macaque, and Grey Slender Loris. Additionally, keep an eye out for Saltwater crocodiles and an assortment of reptiles, including monitor lizards and snakes, adding further intrigue to this rich and diverse ecosystem.

DAY 6 Gal Oya

Depart for Gal Oya, an untouched ancient land where time seems to stand still, offering a serene haven to reconnect with the natural rhythms of the earth. Immerse yourself in the pristine nature and local culture of this unique region. In the afternoon, embark on a boat ride on the Gal Oya tank, providing a one-of-a-kind experience in Sri Lanka where you can observe wildlife directly from the water. This exceptional adventure allows you to immerse yourself in the habitats of diverse animal species. With luck on your side, you might witness elephants swimming gracefully between islands or bathing along the lake's tranquil shores, creating magical moments in this natural sanctuary.

DAY 7 Gal Oya

Early in the morning, embark on a trek to the summit of Money Mountain, where you'll witness the breathtaking sunrise casting its golden hues over the distant hills, while the vast jungle canopy unfolds endlessly below. After this awe-inspiring experience, return to your hotel for a hearty breakfast. Following breakfast, your journey continues with a visit to a village of the Vedda, indigenous forest-dwellers who have called central Sri Lanka home for centuries, living harmoniously with nature. Led by the village chief, embark on a guided walk through the ancestral jungles. Here, the forest comes alive as the chief shares insights into his tribe’s deep knowledge of medicinal plants, reveals the locations of ancient hunting grounds and cave dwellings, and illuminates how their ancestors thrived as hunter-gatherers in the ancient jungles of Gal Oya. It’s a profound encounter with both history and nature, offering a glimpse into a way of life deeply rooted in the rhythms of the forest.

DAY 8 Yala NP

Transfer to Yala National Park for an exhilarating jeep safari. Situated in the southeast of Sri Lanka along the scenic Indian Ocean, Yala was initially established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and later designated as a national park in 1938. Interestingly, it served as a hunting ground for the British elite during colonial times. Yala National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, boasting an impressive array of wildlife. It is home to 44 different mammal species and an astounding 215 bird species. Among its most famous residents are the world's largest concentration of leopards, which makes Yala a top destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Alongside leopards, visitors can spot majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted deer, peacocks, and crocodiles. The best time to visit Yala is from February to July when the water levels within the park are lower, providing excellent opportunities to observe animals congregating in more open areas. A safari through Yala offers unforgettable encounters with some of Sri Lanka's most iconic wildlife in their natural habitat, promising a truly immersive and thrilling experience.

DAY 9 Ahangama

After breakfast, we will embark on a visit to Bundala National Park, renowned for its spectacular birdlife and picturesque lagoons. Following an immersive wildlife experience, we will enjoy lunch before heading to Hikkaduwa. Here, you'll have leisure time to unwind at the beach and soak in the serene coastal atmosphere. In the evening, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Sea Turtle Hatchery and Rescue Center. This center plays a crucial role in conserving endangered turtle species along Sri Lanka's southern coast. What initially began as a community-driven project has evolved into a comprehensive hatchery and rescue center. Dedicated teams work tirelessly to study, care for, and protect several species of turtles, contributing significantly to biodiversity conservation efforts in the region.

DAY 10 Ahangama

Today we head to the beautiful coastal town of Galle. After breakfast we will go sightseeing. Galle Dutch Fort: – The South Coast’s major city is Galle, whose oldest landmark is the massive Portuguese and Dutch Fort. It is a “World Heritage Site”. Some scholars believe it to be the “Tarshish” of the Old Testament, to which King Solomon sent his merchant vessels, and to which Jonah fled from the Lord. Today, the 90-acre Galle Fort shows no evidence of the Portuguese founders. The Dutch incorporated the Portuguese northern wall in a great rampart in 1663. A second, taller wall was built inside of it. Between the two walls, a covered passage connected the central bastion with the Fort’s two half bastion’s overlooking the sea. The Dutch also installed a sophisticated drainage system, complete with brick-lined underground sewers that were flushed twice a day by the high and low tides. The original gate to the fort was by the harbour. It is still there, marked by the British Coat-of-arms on the front and the Dutch V.O.C. (Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie) Coat-of-arms with a rooster crest, on the inner side of the Fort. In the evening our final celebration dinner.
